Hand washing is by far the best way to keep kids from getting sick and prevent the spread of germs. As early as possible, get your child into the habit of washing her hands often and thoroughly.
1. When Hand Washing is important:
- After playing outside
- When touching animals
- After using the bathroom
- Before eating or touching food
- After blowing your nose or coughing
- Before and after visiting sick friends or family
2. Steps to Proper Hand Washing:
- Wash your hands with warm water. Make sure the water isn’t too hot for little hands.
- Use soapand lather up for about 20 seconds (antibacterial soap isn’t necessary — any soap will do).
- Make sure you get in between the fingersand under the nails where germs like to hang out. And don’t forget the wrists!
- Rinse and drywell with a clean towel.
