Types of Allergens
There are many allergens that can trigger allergic reactions in kids. Common allergens include but are not limited to:
- Tree nuts (peanuts, cashews, pecans, etc.)
- Tree nut by-products (peanut butter, etc.)
- Dust mites
- Food allergies
- Insect stings
- Environmental factors (grass, trees, mold spores, etc.)
Mild Allergic Reaction Symptoms in Children
Allergic reactions in kids are extremely common and most symptoms are mild. Mild symptoms include:
- Runny nose
- Sneezing and coughing
- Redness of the skin
- Itching
- Eye swelling
- Facial swelling
- Hives
- Welts
- Tingling or burning sensation of the mouth and tongue
- Stomach pain
- Nausea
Any of these symptoms can indicate a mild allergic reaction, and it is not uncommon for some of them to happen at the same time. If your child frequently suffers from these symptoms, you may want to get them tested for allergies to reduce their reactions.
Severe Allergic Reaction Symptoms in Kids
Severe reactions can occur if your child ingests or gets too close to things that they are highly allergic to. Examples of severe allergic reactions consist of:
- Swelling of the throat or tongue
- Wheezing
- Difficulty swallowing
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Fainting
- Sudden onset of pale skin
If your child is experiencing signs of a severe reaction and you believe they have ingested or encountered an allergen, then you should call 911 or go to the emergency room immediately.
Where Can My Child Receive Treatment for Allergic Reactions?
Allergic reactions in kids are common, and many medical providers can treat them. If your child is experiencing mild symptoms, you can visit a pediatric urgent care for children. At KidsStreet Urgent Care, we diagnose and treat mild allergic reaction symptoms frequently.
For more severe allergies and symptoms, it is best that you consult with your child’s pediatrician to discuss testing and treatment for allergies.
